As the number of visitors to this area increased significantly, the number of coffee shops also rapidly grew, leading to the emergence of the name “Hanoi Train Street Coffee”.

Hanoi Train Street Coffee stretches from Dien Bien Phu Street to Phung Hung Street in Hanoi. Although this section of the road is only a few hundred meters long, there are dozens of active coffee shops, becoming a popular destination for young people and foreign tourists. The main pleasure of visitors here is to sit, chat, take photos, and admire the slow-moving trains passing by closely, experiencing a sense of “thrilling challenge”.

This unique sensation may arouse curiosity, but it also poses a safety risk to the railway as many people stand and take photos right on the train tracks where trains pass. The coffee shops operate in such close proximity to the railway that it does not guarantee a safe space for the trains. Consequently, the Hanoi authorities had to make a decision to prohibit coffee businesses on both sides of the railway corridor.

Read more: What do international tourists like and dislike when visiting Vietnam?

Tourists often take photos on the railway tracks.

Should train street coffee be banned?

Some tourists have expressed that Hanoi currently lacks unique and unusual tourist attractions. Therefore, having a place that not only offers coffee but also allows visitors to learn about the lives of Hanoi residents and the distinctive feature of the railway line passing through the city is seen as an attraction. Instead of banning it, Hanoi should accept and allow the train street coffee shops to operate as a tourism experience and generate employment and income for local residents. However, some people believe that this form of experience is dangerous and needs to be tightly managed to ensure the safety of both residents and tourists.

Where can you experience train street coffee? It is merely a spontaneous trend that has not been officially licensed. However, it offers a unique experience for tourists, especially international visitors who are curious after learning about it on social media. Nevertheless, the safety of tourists should always be a top priority. Therefore, for train street coffee to be officially permitted and included in tourism tours, a clear plan from the Hanoi authorities is necessary.

Pics: laodong.vn

Plan Your Trip

The name “Hanoi Train Street Coffee” originated from the initial opening of a few coffee shops in houses located right next to the train tracks in the heart of Hanoi.
